We believe that Anabaptist studies matter to the church and world. In light of this commitment, you are invited to join efforts to establish a new non-profit organization that will serve as a center for Anabaptist scholarly publishing into the future. This new model prioritizes interinstitutional relationships and collaboration and is committed to publishing high-quality scholarship in an online format that makes academic conversations more widely accessible to a global audience. In the process, it will streamline operations to increase efficiency and maximize the generous contributions of editors, writers, and administrators.
In 2022, Mennonite Historical Society (MHS) affirmed reconfiguring its existing professional society and publications, including Mennonite Quarterly Review (MQR), as a broader scholarly publishing network. In early 2024, MHS, Goshen College and Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary appointed a working group to determine next steps, with a view towards increased cost sustainability and greater collaboration among institutions. Jean Hess (Executive Director, Mennonite Life, Lancaster, PA), Elizabeth Miller (Director, Institute for the Study of Global Anabaptism, Goshen College, Goshen, IN), and Karl Stutzman (Director of Library Services, Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary, Elkhart, IN) convened to develop a model for this initiative.
While MHS will cease to exist in its current form, the strengths of publishing, institutional collaboration, and scholarship that engages the academy and the church can be retained and strengthened for the future.
Will you join us in this effort to create a new platform for publishing in Anabaptist studies?
